The Barrowboy and Banker is a Fuller, Turner and Smith pub. The interior is impressive, with a mezzanine at the top of a wide marble staircase, an abundance of striking murals and artwork lining the walls, brass fittings and lighting, wrought ironwork, marble columns, wooden panelling and partitions, chandeliers and tiled floors. There are also big screens with live sports, but these are never intrusive and do not adversely affect the ambience. The Barrowboy and Banker has no real history as a pub, but it doesn’t need it—it’s one of Fullers impressive bank conversions, an Ale and Pie shop serving their first-rate beers and the usual marvellously-eclectic range of savoury home-made pies.
