Another Sam Smiths pub, The Cittie of Yorke's bar used to be the longest in Britain, The huge barrels above the bar, each with a capacity of a thousand gallons, were once full of wine. It is a grade II listed building, and on the CAMRA national inventory of historic pub interiors. Although there has been a pub on this site since the fifteenth century, the current building is relatively recent, dating to the nineteen-twenties. It is a mixture of styles. The main hall is lined with Victorian-style booths, once used by lawyers and their clients. The huge late-Georgian stove truly is functional, and that impressive beamed roof is genuine mock-Tudor. The result is spectacular and breath-taking.
