Even without the surroundings, The Lamb Tavern would have been interesting in its own right. The interior is highly distinctive, with a wrought-iron spiral staircase leading to a mezzanine, and supported by cast-iron columns. The BBC shot some of Bleak House here, based on Dickens’ novel about legal London. Leadenhall Market was used as one of the locations for filming Brannigan, John Wayne’s detective who visits London, and The Lamb Tavern itself was used for a bar brawl scene. Another Hollywood legend, Robert Mitchum, was also a patron here. The market also appeared in the first Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and has featured in other productions.
