Great Pub Crawls of London

Originally The Ship and Shovell was just one pub but apparently they got sick of the lack of a decent view, so bought the premises opposite, and converted it into another bar. Continuing with its quirkiness, they celebrate Christmas in June here, as all their customers are commuters and hence not generally around at the more usual time of the festivities. It’s a Hall & Woodhouse pub, selling their delicious Dorset ales. Nor is the pub’s name misspelt, as it is named after the distinguished but now little-remembered Sir Cloudesley Shovell, pictured on the pub sign, an Admiral of the Fleet and popular hero in his day. He managed to lose his fleet, and his life, striking rocks near the appropriately-named Scilly Isles in 1707.
