Named after the famous soldier and statesman, The Wellington is a large, airy and comfortable Fullers pub, with as impressive an interior as you’d expect from them. It is also one of their chain of hotels, so in addition to their fine ales it serves food, obviously, as well as breakfast, including the full English. It has a few big screens, but these aren’t intrusive, and many comfortable chairs and sofas, but its most striking feature is the mural of Wellington and his troops over the bar. Field Marshall Arthur Wellesley, the First Duke of Wellington, was the victor, but only just, at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, but then again he was up against one of the best—Napoleon Bonaparte.
